Ceramic Incense Burner

Loved this ceramic hand and gun figurine.  It was at a flat I went to in South Kensington at the weekend.  Couldn't think why i loved it so much, but then I remembered the drawing I did about two years ago.  Quick sketch next to the perfectly crafted incense burner is beautiful.

SNATCH

I've been obsessed with photocopying at the moment.  I've been using small packaging, something we take for granted and usually chuck away, and blowing them up, experimenting with the contrast and levels.  It's interesting to use something analogue and then digitally manipulating it, even though I want to suggest it was all 'spare of the moment'.  I've been using packets with garish and  graphics, match boxes, legal highs & sex toy wrappings.  So small, that we dismiss them, but by enlarging them, we are able to speculate and gain an understanding of them.

The Candidates

I've been asked to produce some prints for a new BBC show called 'The Candidates'; they want some artwork to hang in the room they're filming.  The room is designed to be clean, with wooden floors, white walls and white furniture, however they want bursts of colour on the from prints.  I've gone along with the theme of self portraits, think Andy Warhol, and also tried incorporating smooth pod-esque cut outs of part of my face for an abstract feel.  I personally prefer the black and white copies, but when possibly printed on a much larger scale, the print won't be so much as daunting, with help of the energetic background colour.

It's all very up in the air and still in the early stages yet...

Sergei Vasiliev

So I've been ridiculously busy over the months and haven't updated in forever.

Highlights have been going to the Saatchi Gallery in seeing the photography of Sergei Vasiliev.  I've looked into his work previously, but it was great seeing the prints in life; the large format and saturated quality was more noticeable, something you can't really see online.
